HOW EASY IS IT FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO GET THEIR FIRST JOB? PART 2
IN PART 1 we looked at how work experience placements helped young people gain job interviews. Well we took that data and looked at the most important outcome? How many of these job interviews resulted in a young person receiving a job offer? after all It is the job offer and paid employment that acts as the intervention.
See data picture for answers, here are the insights with some actions we will follow
Week 8 stands out as the only period with successful outcomes, providing 2 job offers on 3 interviews, indicating a potential shift or improvement in either the candidates' preparation or the type of jobs applied for.
Job interviews conducted are mostly not turning into job offers. Out of 16 interviews, only 2 resulted in an offer, indicating a low success rate of 12.5%
ACTIONS
1.Focus on improving interview preparation. Use charity trusties and senior staff to conduct mock interviews. For those doing work experience ask businesses to conduct mock interviews after work experience is completed.
2.Look at aligning job applications more closely with the candidate's interests and skills, this might result in a young persons natural enthusiasm and passion showing during interviews.
CONCLUSION
I am a very solution based youth worker, I am pleased that the work experience strategy in part 1 helped get more young people interview opportunties.
However part 2 shows a clear indication of how hard the system is for young people to get paid employment opportunties.
