Developing Young People

Developing young people is a core aspect of youth work. Through two decades of trial and error here are the key strategies that I still use to this day. I have broken them down into four different development types and displayed them in the visuals below  By focusing on these areas, you can support the development of young people and help them grow into confident, capable, and compassionate individuals.

The importance of Female only youth clubs

Image
The importance of Female only youth clubs  I sat down for a discussion consultation with a group of 10 girls aged between 13-16 to discuss why our female only youth club works for them  The responses are displayed in the data visual here   INSIGHTS FROM THIS DISCUSSION Safety and comfort are significant themes, as many participants express that the absence of boys contributes to a sense of security and self-expression. The presence of boys is seen as disruptive, both in terms of noise and behavioral expectations, suggesting a preference for a calmer environment. An increased sense of community and bonding among the girls is highlighted, noting that the exclusion of boys fosters closer relationships. The insights are clear that we should continue to provide female only groups that support girls mental health & wellbeing.
