As part of the department of culture, media and sport National * Youth * Strategy “whats your order” consultation, we asked 126 young people aged between 10-19 

Which of the following qualities and skills are most important to you in a trusted adult?

We recorded the answers for our data which yielded the following results 


INSIGHTS from the top 3 qualities and skills 

Trustworthiness emerges as a paramount quality in trusted adults, topping the list with a score of 20. This highlights the critical need for us youth workers to be unwavering pillars of trust, emphasizing reliability and integrity in our interactions with young people.

The importance of non-judgmental attitudes is strongly evident, with a high score of 17 for not being judgmental. This shines a light on the necessity for us youth workers to adopt open-minded approaches, creating environments where young people feel safe to express themselves without fear of criticism

Understanding young peoples' needs is crucial, highlighted by its high score of 10. This suggests that young people feel valued when their specific needs are understood, emphasising the role of empathy and active listening in trusted relationships.

The results give our youth workers some clear actionable insights.

3. Always be available to listen to confidential information 

4. Create projects with youth voice imput
