Holiday Bucket List

๐Ÿ️Holiday Bucket List Youth Work Session Plan #YOUTHWORK

We use a youth voice approach when deciding what sessions to deliver therefore all session plans are created at young peoples request or need.

I recently went on holiday to Greece ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ท which led to a lot of young people asking where i had been and about holidays in general.

I work with a lot of young people who have never been on holiday so i wanted to do a session on holiday aspirations.

Here is the session plan

๐Ÿ“Œ Objective
Encourage young people to explore their aspirations and create a holiday bucket list.

Resources ( internet access and travel brochures).

๐Ÿ—’️Session Plan

1. Discussion: Ask young people to share favourite holiday experiences. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

TIP - For those who have never been on holiday ask them to share experiences they had with friends of families that wernt at home.
For us one young person shared about going on the arcades ๐Ÿ‘พat Southend Sea front. Another shared about spending the day at a craft ๐Ÿงถvillage

Activity 1: Dream Destinations
Spider diagram ๐Ÿ•ท️

Put HOLIDAY in the centre of a large sheet of paper and ask young people to create a spider diagram by answering the following questions❓

1⃣If you could go anywhere in the world ๐ŸŒ, where would you go?

2⃣What would you like to do or experience  on holiday?

Reflection: Encourage young people to discuss and reflect on their holiday aspirations. The whys and whens

Activity 2: Bucket List Creation

1. ๐Ÿ—’️List-making:

Ask young people to create a list of 5 holiday destinations they plan to go.

2. ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿฝ‍♀️Sharing

Encourage discussion and sharing of bucket lists.

TIP - Encourage creativity with lists so young people have fun with it. We had the artic ๐Ÿฅถto meet Eskimos and Dubai ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธto eat some authentic Dubai chocolate

Conclusion

1. Display: Set aside space so young people can display lists and spider diagram in the youth centre to remind them of there holiday aspirations.

TIP - Some young people wont be happy to  display lists openly in a space for everyone to see, only 40% chose to display for us. Create an enviroment that supports this

2. Support: Support young people to explore making their holiday aspirations a reality one day

Evaluation ๐Ÿ”š

Debrief amongst youth workers on what worked and what didnt (observation) ๐Ÿ’ก
followed by a detailed written evaluation ๐Ÿ“ƒ
